Renowned talk show host Stephen Colbert recently had the honor of revealing the Hollywood heartthrob who won the title of People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2024. Although many netizens agree with the result, others are struggling to reconcile with the outcome.
Gold envelope in hand, Colbert said, “Without further ado — Joe, drumroll, please.” As the percussion sound ensued, the talk show host revealed, “This year’s People’s Sexiest Man Alive is…John Krasinski!”
The audience erupted into cheers as the striking magazine cover of Krasinski appeared on a screen behind Colbert. “I mean, look at him, I get it. Plus, we’re friends so, a very, very sexy congrats to the very sexy John Kra-sexy,” remarked the charismatic host.
Colbert, who pretended to be sad that he didn’t win, joked, “I just […] really thought this was gonna be my year. No! Who are we kidding? I’m never gonna be the Sexiest Man Alive.”
Soon after Colbert’s playful act, the man of the hour (Krasinski) appeared on stage, garnering a loud and joyful response from the crowd.
When he was seated next to Colbert, Krasinski, who donned a charcoal-colored suit jacket and formal pants, engaged in banter with the TV personality.
“I heard the news and I had to come as soon as I could, ’cause I know how bad you wanted to be People’s Sexiest Man Alive, and so I just came to see if you’re ok,” stated Krasinski.
In response, Colbert humorously noted how “thoughtful” his famous friend’s gesture was, before dubbing Krasinski’s thoughtfulness as “such a sexy quality.”
Colbert then noted that Krasinski probably received the accolade because of his kind nature. “Well, I think it’s that and the biceps,” reasoned Krasinski.
The friends continued to exchange more jokes concerning “The Office” actor’s win, with Colbert pointing out that Krasinski has only beaten him once in an arm wrestling challenge, which the star corrected to “twice.”
“Stephen, it’s ok, alright? You’re not the Sexiest Man Alive, but who cares? Who is? Except for me, apparently,” expressed Krasinski, prompting more laughs from the audience.
In addition to the comical interview with Colbert, Krasinski sat down with People to discuss his win during a photoshoot.
Speaking about his reaction after hearing that he would be receiving the title, the “IF” director divulged, “Just immediate blackout. So, the brain just turned off actually. Zero thoughts other than, maybe I’m being punked, and then after that, it was just full surreality.”
He continued, “That’s not how I wake up usually thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet, it was the day. You guys did it. You guys really raised the bar for me.”
The doting dad of two also mentioned that he shared the news with his famous wife, Emily Blunt, who he said was “very excited.” He joked about how the title will most likely result in him getting assigned more household chores, which he said he doesn’t mind.
“I think after the cover comes out she’ll be like, ‘Alright, that means you’re gonna really earn it here at home,” quipped the actor.
After discovering who won the alluring title for this year, social media users flooded online forums with comments. Many praised Krasinski.
“Great pick. He’s an amazing actor, father and husband!!” commended a fan, while another echoed, “Nice choice! John Krasinski is definitely a fan favorite.”
Adding to the consensus, a fellow admirer penned, “There’s nothing sexier than a man with a sense of humor!!” “Because being funny is sexy🙌🏻👏🏻,” swooned another fan, while someone else opined, “this [sic] just feels right.”
While many agreed with Krasinski’s win, some people weren’t entirely sure of People’s decision. “I like Mr. Krasinski, but ‘Sexiest Man?’ He’s certainly nice looking [sic], but I consider him sort of ‘average’ by Hollywood standards,” asserted a Facebooker.
Similarly, someone else observed, “He must have a movie coming out. He’s not incredibly good looking but he does have that nice guy, kinda geeky quality about him.”
“Glen Powell, Jonathon Bailey and Theo James have had a GREAT year. Like come on…[sic]” mentioned a user on X. Another netizen who added a photo of Krasinski’s wife portraying her character from “The Devil Wears Prada” commented, “only [sic] his wife thinks that.”
Someone else chimed in with, “Struggling to see it.” However, a fan was quick to defend, “To the commenters that don’t see it, he’s good looking and a loving husband and father and is funny and nice too. Being sexy is more than just looks!!!”
Before announcing who scored the top title, People revealed the famous winners of their Sexiest Man Alive readers’ choice poll. The publication tallied nearly 350,000 votes for all 15 categories, which included Sexiest Musician and Sexiest Supportive Partner in Sports.
Although they were up against some fierce competition, Chip Gaines, Tim McGraw, Shemar Moore, Glen Powell, Jonathan Bailey, Mark Consuelos, Jacob Elordi, and Harry Styles, among many others, emerged victorious.
These stars won the following titles, respectively: Sexiest Handy Man, Sexiest Long-Married Star, Gen SeXiest, Sexiest Summer Action Star, Sexiest Fiyero, Sexiest Talk Show Host, Sexiest New Heartthrob, and Sexiest Musician.
The poll results and the Sexiest Man Alive title announcement come a little over a year after last year’s winner was announced. Unlike the mixed reactions Krasinski received, netizens were all in agreement with who won the 2023 title.
