Bindi Irwin shares new ‘devastating’ health detail

Bindi Irwin Opens Up About the Heartbreaking Reality of Endometriosis

Two years ago, Bindi Irwin bravely shared with the world that she had been diagnosed with endometriosis, a painful and often misunderstood condition. Now, Bindi is speaking up once again, offering a powerful message about the challenges women face when dealing with this condition, and how one question changed everything.

A Long Road to Answers

Living with endometriosis is incredibly tough, as Bindi can attest. Her journey to finding answers has been long and full of uncertainty. For years, Bindi experienced severe pain, fatigue, and nausea, but it took a while for doctors to believe her.

In an interview with Courier Mail, she revealed that she spent years doubting herself because no one seemed to understand what she was going through. Only a few people knew the truth: her mother, Terri Irwin, her brother Robert, and her husband Chandler Powell.

“It is scary when you open up about your most vulnerable and painful times, when you talk about when you felt you were sitting in a very large hole and didn’t know if you were going to crawl out,” Bindi admitted.

Struggling in Silence

Bindi’s journey with endometriosis started when she got her first period. From the very beginning, it came with excruciating pain, nausea, and overwhelming fatigue. As she got older, the symptoms worsened, but Bindi continued to push through, never wanting to let it show on the outside.

She even got married in 2020, and to the outside world, she appeared to be living a happy, normal life. But secretly, Bindi was struggling more than anyone knew.

“Everyone else thought I was becoming this flaky person because I would bow out of commitment after commitment at the last minute, because I was in so much pain,” she shared.

Finding Relief, But at a Cost

After years of pain and frustration, Bindi was finally diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often leading to infertility and intense pain. For Bindi, the diagnosis was both a relief and a heartbreak. She wasn’t crazy, and there was a reason for the pain she had been experiencing. But sharing her story on social media didn’t bring the comfort she expected.

“In some ways, the response to telling my story was devastating,” Bindi said. “So many women came forward with their own stories. Some were identical to mine, and some had taken even longer to get a diagnosis. The stories of women’s health issues shared with me and with each other broke my heart.”

The Painful Question About Having More Children

One of the hardest parts of Bindi’s experience has been the constant questioning about whether she and Chandler would have more children. Endometriosis can make it difficult for women to conceive, and up to 50% of those affected may face infertility. So, when Bindi and Chandler were asked, “Are you planning on having another child?” it struck a nerve.

“How often do we get asked that, Chandler?” Bindi asked her husband with a mix of exhaustion and emotion.

“Daily,” Chandler replied, gently, understanding the weight of the question.

The birth of their daughter, Grace, in March 2021, had already been a miracle. Chandler reminded viewers of how incredibly lucky they were to have Grace, especially considering Bindi’s struggles with endometriosis.

“It was an absolute miracle that we had Grace, and we are revelling in every little moment we have with our little miracle baby,” Chandler said, clearly grateful for their family of three.

Bindi’s Heartfelt Plea

In the emotional YouTube Q&A, Bindi took a moment to speak directly to those who often ask about expanding their family. With grace and compassion, she shared her thoughts on why people should be more mindful of the personal challenges others may be facing.

“I get that people are curious,” Bindi began, her voice filled with emotion, “but before you ask something so personal, please take a moment to consider what someone might be going through. Just because everything looks fine on the surface, doesn’t mean it is. The journey people have been on might be filled with struggles and heartache that you can’t even imagine.”

Bindi continued, saying how lucky they felt to have Grace. “She is our beautiful girl, but she will probably be our one child. But you never know. Maybe we will be blessed with another little one down the road, that would be incredible.”

Bindi also spoke about her feelings on referring to Grace as their “only” child. “Sometimes it’s so easy to say Grace will be our only child, and I do not like the word ‘only.’ Grace is our child. She is our one beautiful, perfect, amazing little girl. Every single day I think about how lucky we are to have her.”

A Powerful Message of Advocacy

Bindi’s words have deeply resonated with many. One fan commented on the video, sharing their appreciation for Bindi’s honesty: “As someone with multiple chronic illnesses, I LOVE the advocacy and awareness work you do for endo and other invisible illnesses. It means so much.”

Bindi’s decision to be open about her struggles with endometriosis has made her a powerful advocate for women with chronic illnesses. By sharing her story, she’s helping break the stigma surrounding conditions like endometriosis, showing that even though the disease is invisible, its effects are very real.

“I’m so glad Bindi is sharing her story,” one fan wrote. “Breaking the stigma surrounding endometriosis is half the battle, and Bindi is doing an amazing job by being so open about it.”

Through her vulnerability and strength, Bindi continues to inspire others to speak up, raise awareness, and support each other. Her message is clear: we should never assume we know what someone is going through. Compassion, understanding, and open conversations can help break down the walls of silence that often surround chronic illnesses.
